26 Best Teen Movies of the 90s That Will Give You All Kinds of Nostalgia https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/2809618/90s-teen-movies/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/2809618/90s-teen-movies/#respond Fri, 22 Aug 2025 19:51:58 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc-gallery&p=2809618 Nothing hits quite a good as a teen movie from the 90s. Sure, watching a new movie or TV show is fun, and can bring its fair share of excitement and surprise, there’s something quite comforting about watching an old show or movie, whether you’ve seen it multiple times or not.

And although watching an older movie, say from the 90s, can highlight some major tech differences, like the huge landlines in Cruel Intentions or the outdated radios in Pump Up the Volume, the timelessness of these movies shows that some human experiences are, after all, quite universal.

So, if you’re wondering what to watch on your next movie night, we’re encouraging you to steer clear from your streaming platform’s “Newest Releases” section and look through some nostalgic 90s cinematic treasures instead. Among our favorites are the hilarious House Party, the tear-jerking 10 Things I Hate About You, the brilliant Romeo + Juliet and the nail-biting comedy-horror Scream, which became the first of its franchise.

Plus, you might even get to see some of your favorite celebrities baby-faced right at the beginning of their careers too. What’s more adorable than that?

Here are the best 90s movies for teens!

Documentaries About Real-Life Cults That Will Blow Your Mind https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/9510/documentaries-about-cults/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/9510/documentaries-about-cults/#respond Mon, 18 Aug 2025 21:07:00 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/9510/documentaries-about-real-life-cults/ If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, SheKnows may receive an affiliate commission.

When Netflix’s docu-series Wild Wild Country, we fell down the rabbit hole of the Rajneesh movement. Then, once you’ve made it through the entire six-part series, it’s impossible to stave off your curiosity about other cults. What is it that makes certain people susceptible to such polarizing pedagogy? What leads a person to the “calling” of a cult leader? And, most pressingly, can binge-watching documentaries about real-life cults offer any insight into the bizarre worlds inhabited by such people?

The lives of members of infamous cults, like the one chronicled in Wild Wild Country, make compelling fodder for limited television series and TV movies. So, you be the judge. Thanks to streaming giants like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, it’s easier than ever to take a psychedelic trip into the belief systems of cult leaders and their followers.

We’ve gleaned quite a few mind-blowing examples to get you started. But be forewarned, the following documentaries may leave you with more questions than answers.

Here’s Where You Can Watch the Entire Demon Slayer Series for Free Ahead of the New Infinity Castle Movie https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/1234912217/where-to-watch-demon-slayer-for-free/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/1234912217/where-to-watch-demon-slayer-for-free/#respond Thu, 14 Aug 2025 16:50:00 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?p=1234912217 If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, SheKnows may receive an affiliate commission.

Calling all manga readers and anime watchers (plus, their parents!), we’re happy (and a little sad) to announce that the final installment of one of the most popular anime series is almost here! Of course, we’re talking about the new Demon Slayer movie. Dubbed Infinity Castle, the latest installment is set to hit theaters as early as Thursday, September 11. It promises to take us through the beginning of the Demon Slayer Corps’ first and hopefully final interaction with Muzan Kibutsuji, aka the Demon King.

Now, if everything I said above sounds foreign to you, it’s most likely one of two things: You either don’t watch anime at all or have never seen Demon Slayer. And if you happen to answer yes to either of those above, I’m here to let you know it’s never too late to get started. If you want to watch the new Infinity Castle movie with your friends and understand what’s going on, you still have time to get in on all the Demon Slayer action.

Luckily, the highly-rated series only has four seasons, with the new movie trilogy being the fifth. And with each season having no more than 10 episodes aside from one that has about 20, it’ll be pretty easy to catch up in time for when Infinity Castle comes out. But where can you watch it, you might ask. Below, check out our guide on where to watch the entire Demon Slayer series, and who has it available for free.

Where to Watch Demon Slayer for Free?

A simple Google search will tell you that you can find the coveted Anime series on most streaming platforms, like Netflix or Hulu. However, those platforms may or may not have the entire series, or it may cost to watch them. Below, I’ve outlined all the platforms you can watch Demon Slayer on for free.

Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll is the obvious choice for us. It’s the go-to platform for all things anime, so of course, they have the entire series and will most likely have the new movies sooner than any other platform. So if there was ever a free trial to start, it’s this one.

Prime Video

Another great option is Prime Video. Amazon has a partnership with Crunchyroll, so a lot of the best anime series are there, but you still get access to tons of other shows, movies, and more with the same free trial.

Is 'Outlander: Blood of My Blood' Based on a Book? Details About The Prequel Series https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/1234910553/is-outlander-blood-of-my-blood-based-book/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/1234910553/is-outlander-blood-of-my-blood-based-book/#respond Fri, 08 Aug 2025 18:41:38 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?p=1234910553 If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, SheKnows may receive an affiliate commission.

If you’re barely hanging on until Outlander’s eighth and final season, which will air in 2026, the show’s prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, might help fill the void. But die-hard fans of the Starz show and original book series might be wondering what the prequel series is based on.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood takes fans of the historical drama back in time to follow two new love stories: that of the parents of the protagonists from the original series, Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp, played by Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, respectively.

Here’s what you need to know about the prequel series.

Is ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Based On A Book?

No, Outlander: Blood of My Blood is not based on a book, unlike the original Outlander television series. Diana Gabaldon, the author of the Outlander book series, confirmed on her website that she is working on “at least one” prequel series that will tell the story of Jamie’s parents, but this remains unpublished.

Gabaldon did have a hand in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, writing the penultimate and finale episodes in this season, which will air on September 26 and October 10, respectively.

Outlander, which debuted its first season in 2014, is based on Diana Gabaldon’s book series of the same name. Each season has closely followed a book from the series in order, aside from season 7, which had the mammoth task of adapting the end of book 6, A Breath of Snow and Ashes; book 7, An Echo in the Bone; and book 8, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood.

Season 8 will adapt the ninth book in Gabaldon’s series, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. Though the show will end here, Gabaldon has confirmed that she is working on a tenth book, which will be the final book of the main series. “Though there may be other companion books and side stories, depending on how long I live,” the 73-year-old author wrote in a May Facebook post, per Parade.

What Is ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ About?

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is about Jamie and Claire’s parents and their love stories. Claire’s parents, Julia (Hermione Corfield) and Henry (Jeremy Irvine), begin their love story on the battlefields of the Western Front during World War I. Jamie’s parents, Ellen (Harriet Slater) and Brian (Jamie Roy), fall in love in the meadows of Scotland in the early 18th century.

A trailer revealed that, like the original Outlander series, there will be a time travel element that allows Claire’s parents to intersect with the 18th-century timeline.

Are Jamie & Claire in ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’?

No, Jamie and Claire will not be main characters in Outlander: Blood of My Blood. The show’s setting predates their births.

It remains to be seen whether they will appear in the show as infants later in the series.

'The Hunting Wives' Season 2: Why the Future of the Netflix Series Is in Limbo https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/1234908556/the-hunting-wives-season-2/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/1234908556/the-hunting-wives-season-2/#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 20:57:10 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?p=1234908556 Those eagerly waiting for The Hunting Wives season 2 might want to know why the show’s future at Netflix isn’t guaranteed.

The salacious murder mystery, which is based on the 2021 novel by May Cobb, follows Sophie (Brittany Snow) as she moves from Boston to Texas and falls into an elite group of southern, gun-toting women led by Margo (Malin Akerman).

As she attempts to assimilate into the conservative, anti-abortion, and pro-gun Republican group, who have a penchant for partying, Sophie gets dragged into Margo’s drama, at risk to her own life.

Its 8-episode first season and a twisty cliffhanger ending have left fans of the show clamouring for more. However, this may not be your typical show renewal story.

Will There Be a ‘The Hunting Wives’ Season 2?

The Hunting Wives has not yet been renewed for season 2, so we will have to wait to see if it gets picked up.

The Hunting Wives is in a unique position when it comes to getting a season 2 on Netflix since it is not a Netflix Original. Per Deadline, up until a little over a month before premiering on Netflix on July 21, The Hunting Wives was a Starz drama, produced by Lionsgate. When the streamer parted ways with Lionsgate, the latter acquired the rights to the show.

Netflix has exclusive licensing rights in the U.S. for a year, and the cast can opt in for new seasons. However, Lionsgate remains in charge of the show’s international distribution, and the future of the show lies in the studio’s hands, not Netflix’s.

However, we have no doubts that The Hunting Wives has a strong chance of landing a second season. Netflix bills the show as “Season 1,” not a “limited series,” so they certainly seem optimistic. Per Deadline, the show amassed 5.2 million views in its first week and has been charting high on the platform.

What Has ‘The Hunting Wives’ Cast Said About Season 2?

The cast of the show seems open to coming back for season 2. In July, Akerman told People that she “definitely” wants a second season.

“Not only to see it all play out, but when you get to go back to a show over and over again, it’s like going to summer camp and seeing the people that you love the most,” she explained. “That’s what this show feels like. I loved everyone on the cast and crew.”

“If we get a second season, I’ll be so, so happy,” she said.

In an interview with Collider, Akerman’s costar, Snow, said there is plenty left to be seen in season 2, “There are a lot of questions that didn’t get answered because Rebecca [Cutter, the show’s creator] wants to answer them in the next season if we get one.”

What Would ‘The Hunting Wives’ Cast Season 2 Be About?

Cutter already revealed to Variety that season 2 would begin with “a little bit of a time jump — not a year, but a time.”

Cutter also said that Sophie and Margo’s relationship would, of course, be at the center of any plot. “The first thing I’m thinking about is, where are these two women at the start? Where are they at the end? What are the peaks and valleys of their individual power, of their relationship? So it’s tracking a course for that, and then figuring out what the crime engine is.”

The Hunting Wives is streaming on Netflix now.

Who Belly Ends up With in 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' Books & What Fans Want Done Differently the Show https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/1234907644/who-belly-ends-up-with-the-summer-i-turned-pretty-books/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/1234907644/who-belly-ends-up-with-the-summer-i-turned-pretty-books/#respond Tue, 29 Jul 2025 21:52:46 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?p=1234907644 With the third and final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty underway, we’re spoiling who Belly ends up with at the end of the original book series.

Season three, which is airing on Prime Video, is based on We’ll Always Have Summer, the third book in Jenny Han’s book series, and reveals which of the Fisher brothers Belly ends up with: Conrad or Jeremiah.

So far, the show has closely followed the first two books in the series, The Summer I Turned Pretty and It’s Not Summer Without You. In the first two seasons, Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) falls for her childhood crush, Conrad (Christopher Briney), all while his younger brother Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) lusts from afar. After Belly and Conrad break up, she begins a romance with Jeremiah. In season three, two years on from season two, Belly and Jeremiah are happily together until Conrad comes back into the picture.

While we’ll have to wait for the rest of the season to air to discover who Belly ends up with in the show, we do know the book ending, and it may play out the same on screen.

Warning: stop reading now if you don’t want spoilers for The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3.

Who Does Belly End up With in ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Books?

In the books, Belly ends up with Conrad after a dramatic breakup with Jeremiah on their wedding day.

Shortly before Belly and Jeremiah are due to get married, Conrad learns that his brother cheated on Belly with Lacie and confesses his love to her. Belly shuts him down but tells Jeremiah, causing him to question whether they’re meant to be together.

On the day of their wedding, Jeremiah is nowhere to be found and Conrad is forced to track him down, causing a fight to break out between the brothers. After taking a punch, Conrad tells Jeremiah, “Fine. I love her. I admit it. Sometimes — sometimes I think she’s the only girl I could ever be with. But Jere, she picked you. You’re the one she wants to marry. Not me.”

Conrad gives Jeremiah a letter that their mom, Susannah, wrote before her death, with the intention that he read it on his wedding day. However, it turns out Susannah accidentally swapped the letters and Jeremiah ended up getting Conrad’s one, in which Susannah wrote that Belly is the only person she’s ever seen Conrad love.

Unsurprisingly, Jeremiah isn’t happy. He tells Conrad he can never see Belly again and returns to his wedding. However, before walking down the aisle, he confronts Belly about her feelings for Conrad once again, and insists that he was never her first choice.

“That’ll always be Con,” he says. “I won’t be your excuse. You’ve got to see for yourself, or you’ll never be able to let him go.”

When Belly can’t deny her feelings for Conrad any longer, they decide to call off the wedding.

“It wouldn’t have been right. Not for either of us. Sometimes I wonder if we had rushed into getting married because we were both trying to prove something to the other and maybe even to ourselves,” Belly says in the book. “But then I think no, we truly did love each other. We truly did have the best of intentions. It, we, just weren’t meant to be.”

The book then jumps forward a couple of years to Belly’s wedding day and the letter Susannah wrote for her. It’s revealed that, after reconnecting, Conrad is the one Belly is marrying. He and Jeremiah have reconciled, and the trio celebrates Belly and Conrad’s wedding together before the newlyweds decide to skip their reception and drive to go play in the ocean like they did when they were kids.

The book ends with Conrad carrying Belly into the ocean, telling her, “I go wherever you go.”

Who Will Belly End up With in ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Show?

If the show follows the book, Belly will end up with Conrad in The Summer I Turned Pretty. However, Han has hinted that there could be changes.

“There are definitely changes,” the author said in a March interview with Entertainment Weekly. There are surprises. And there are things that aren’t exactly like the books.”

In July, she told Elite Daily that she was open to deviating from the ending of the books in the show. “I always knew how I wanted to end the books. But with the show, I went into it with an open mind. I wanted to approach it with fresh eyes and just see what sort of magic happened on screen. I am somebody who is always changing things up,” she said.

Who Do Fans Want Belly To End up With in ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Show?

The Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah debate has kept fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty books and show talking for decades, and there are a lot of mixed feelings about who Belly should end up with in the show’s finale.

When SheKnows spoke to fans of the show, some told us that the show drastically changed their feelings, and they switched from being Team Conrad to wanting Belly to choose Jeremiah. This is something that has also been echoed by fans on Reddit.

Others have debated whether Belly could end up choosing herself and breaking up the love triangle for good. However, some fans will note that this goes against the show’s central focus as a love story.

Needless to say, there is only one way to find out who Belly chooses in the show, and that’s by watching all the way to the finale.

'The O.C.' Is Making a Comeback — Why Gen Z Can't Get Enough of One of the 2000s' Biggest Teen Shows https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/1234907208/the-oc-gen-z-teens/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/1234907208/the-oc-gen-z-teens/#respond Mon, 28 Jul 2025 21:01:04 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?p=1234907208 In an era filled with low-rise jeans and Freaky Friday sequels, it’s no surprise that Gen Z is getting acquainted with all things Y2K. When we talked to teens about Gen Z’s 2000s nostalgia, there was one 2000s show that seemed to be occupying their minds, and that’s The O.C.

Airing from 2003 until 2007, The O.C. is firmly a millennial teen show, but its relevance and impact have created a new generation of fans.

16-year-old Kaya got into the show when she saw her best friend watching it, but most teens credit social media for their newfound obsession with the California-set show. “I saw it on TikTok,” explains 17-year-old Greta, a member of SheKnows’ Teen Council. “I needed something to watch, so I was like, ‘Why not try it?'”

This is the case for other teens we talked to who found their way to The O.C. through TikTok edits set to music by Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, and more artists whose hits came out long after the show stopped airing.

THE O.C., Adam Brody, Rachel Bilson, Benjamin McKenzie, Mischa Barton, 'The Graduates', (Season 3, aired May 18, 2006), 2003-2007. photo: Greg Schwartz / © WB / Courtesy: Everett Collection

A 2021 Business Insider report interviewed teens running TikTok and Instagram fan pages with over 30,000 followers, all committed to posting about The O.C., Dawson’s Creek, and more shows that had their peak before they were born. They gushed about “nostalgia” for an era just out of their grasp and envisioned what their teens would have been like in the early aughts.

For our teens, the show’s allure lies in just how unrelatable it is. The O.C, follows the intertwined lives of the Cohen, Cooper and Nichol families in a wealthy enclave of Newport Beach and made stars out of Mischa Barton, Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody. Like those of us who watch Big Little Lies, The White Lotus and other shows that make drama out of the lives of rich people, teens are drawn to just how separate The O.C. feels from their own lives.

16-year-old Anais says some of today’s teen shows, like Ginny & Georgia or The Summer I Turned Pretty, can feel too forced. “Some parts of them are representing teenagers,” she says. “But I feel like people make fun of how other parents are just totally unrealistic and you can see how an adult was thinking, ‘Oh, this is what teenagers are like.'”

The O.C. is not trying too hard to relate to its teen audience and instead puts a glossy sheen over the anxiety-filled experience of being a teenager. It doesn’t shy away from sensitive storylines, even if that means including some dangerously romanticized storylines like Summer’s substance abuse or Luke’s relationship with Marissa’s mom. And it doesn’t try too hard to moralize its storylines or build in didactic lessons that patronize teens.

Plus, for a generation used to binge-watching 10-episode seasons of shows across a single weekend, there is plenty of The O.C. to sink their teeth into. 92 to be exact. Impossible for a Netflix limited series to compete with, if you ask us.
