Despite both being such iconic actresses, sisters Dakota Fanning and Elle Fanning, will be joining the screen together for the first time ever. Not only that, but they’ll be collaborating on the long-awaited film adaptation of the BookTok-loved book from 2015, The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.

The book tells the story of two sisters, Vianne and Isabelle, who are in France during World War II. As they try to survive, Vianne continues life as a wife and mother in Nazi-occupied France, while her sister Isabelle joins the French Resistance.

Dakota is set to play Vianne and Elle is set to play Isabelle.

TriStar has set a date, saying it will be released on Feb 12, 2027. Along with being written by the author, they’ve tapped Dana Stevens, who was a writer on films like Safe Haven, The Woman King, and Fatherhood. They’ve also tapped To Leslie director Michael Morris to direct this.

Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine are set to produce as well, per Deadline. (This makes sense when you remember it’s a Reese Book Club Pick!)

Reese even wrote via her Book Club’s site, “Our March 2023 #ReesesBookClub Pick has sparked SO many conversations in the @hellosunshine office lately. The Nightingale by @KristinHannahAuthor is arguably one of the most powerful, most captivating novels about WWII in recent years. This important story illuminates a part of history that’s often overlooked: the women’s war. It’s a harrowing tale of two sisters, survival, love and female resilience throughout Nazi-occupied France. If you haven’t read it yet (we know how popular it’s been!!), read along with us this month @ReesesBookClub!”
