Jeff Bezos & Lauren Sánchez’s Relationship Timeline

January 2019 was a crazy month for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Within less than 48 hours, he announced his separation from MacKenzie Scott and then confirmed his relationship with Lauren Sánchez. Since then, the two lovebirds have been all over each other and packing on the PDA all over the world.

And as many entertainment readers are aware, the two got engaged in May 2023, after nearly five years together!

Despite Bezos being a literal billionaire and Sánchez being an entertainment reporter and news anchor since the 1990s, the two are quite private about their relationship. After four years of questions, Sanchez revealed a glimpse into their relationship with the Wall Street Journal, saying, “We love to be together and we love to work together. We fly together. We work out together. We’re together all the time.”

She added that the Amazon founder is “really funny. He makes me laugh all the time. He can be goofy.”

In 2016, Sánchez’s ex-husband, Patrick Whitesell, introduced her to Bezos at an Apple release party for the movie Manchester by the Sea. At the time, Bezos was also married to his ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott.
2018: Bezos & Sánchez Reconnect

In 2018, Bezos and Sánchez reconnected when he hired Sánchez’s company, Black Ops Aviation, to film a bit for his space travel company, Blue Origin. According to the 2021 book Amazon Unbound, she helped him get over his fear of flying.
January 9, 2019: Bezos Gets Divorced, His Relationship With Sánchez Is Confirmed

In January 9, 2019, rumors of their relationship started swirling after they were pictured together a few times. On Jan. 6, Bezos announced his divorce from ex-wife MacKenzie Scott.

“As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared life as friends,” Bezos wrote in his announcement on X.

That same day, People confirmed his romance with Sánchez.

“Lauren and Jeff have been spending a lot of time together over the last year and especially the past few months,” a source told the outlet. “At first, it was socially at parties… here and there. But their time together has definitely seemed to evolve, raising some eyebrows. Jeff has met a small group of Lauren’s girlfriends, too. The two of them are sort of thick as thieves right now.”

The source also shut down rumors of infidelity. “Patrick and Lauren have been on and off for a while and have been separated,” the source said. “[Patrick] knew they were seeing each other.”

Sánchez filed for divorce from Whitesell in April.
January 24, 2019: Bezos & Sánchez Move In Together

After their relationship went public, Bezos and Sánchez didn’t shy away from slowing down their romance.

In late January, People revealed their plans to move in together. “They are very much together, and are planning to move in together,” the source said.
July 14, 2019: Their First Publicized Outing

While they were seen together multiple times throughout their courtship, they turned up the heat on July 14, 2019, when they were seen packing on the PDA at the Men’s Finals Day of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships.
August 2019: Bezos & Sánchez Travel the World

December 19, 2019: Bezos Threw Her Two Birthday Parties

In December 2019, Bezos reportedly threw Sanchez two elaborate, star-studded 50th birthday parties, per Page Six.

The first was reportedly a “intimate dinner for family,” an the second was a “huge bash.” The guest list included Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, Scooter Braun and wife Yael, Barry Diller and Diane Von Furstenberg and Timothée Chalamet.

“Jeff and Lauren looked happier than ever,” a source told the outlet at the time.
June 1, 2021: Bezos & Sánchez’s Focus on Philanthropy

Despite the couple being notoriously private about their love life, close sources did share with People that they were excited to focus on philanthropy together back in January 2021.

“Both Jeff and Lauren are really energized by the work they are doing in philanthropy,” the source said. “It’s been a focus and bright spot for them, particularly over the last year.”
January 25, 2023: Sánchez Gushes Over Bezos

In a rare interview with the Wall Street Journal, Sánchez finally gave some details about their relationship.

“We love to be together and we love to work together,” she revealed. “We fly together. We work out together. We’re together all the time.”
May 2023: Bezos & Sánchez Get Engaged

After a few days of speculation, sources confirmed that Bezos proposed to Sánchez on his $500 million yacht named Koru.

“He proposed last week,” a source close to the couple told People. “They’re on cloud nine — so happy and madly in love.”

“Her engagement ring is beyond stunning. And huge! She keeps playing with it and looking at it,” the source continued. “You can tell she loves it.”
August 2, 2023: Bezos & Sánchez Throw an Engagement Party
